'Summary of Concrete Cat'
Concrete cat is an example of a concrete poem and it is a poem made for the eye. This poem concerns the physical appearance of poetry. It doesn't contain the emotions, ideas, and language. It deals with the reduced language.
The poem is telling us about a cat and the poet here experiences the sight of a cat through the letters and he organizes the words in a very skillful way that represents the shape of a cat and different organs of the cat. The letter 'A' indicates the shape of the pointed ears and 'U' makes the mouth. The white backdrop and black letters here show the real stripe of the cat. The selection of words such as stripe, whisper, paw, tail, etc characterizes the real cat. The poet sets the letter 'mouse' which is dead. The cat is playing with the dead cat. Thus concrete cat is an implied poem that indicates concrete ideas about something. This type of poem is meant to see rather than to read, a poem for the eye not for the ear.
